Join VIDA in Supporting the Abuelitos
Imagine yourself living on $1,255 a month in the 7th most expensive city in the country. $1,255 a month is the 2024 WDC poverty line. Too many DC seniors don't have to imagine it, they actually have to do it. They struggle to find housing they can afford, worry about paying utilities, out of pocket healthcare costs, transportation and more. They struggle to pay for the small amounts of fresh produce and staples they can afford. They come to Vida for the five free lunches a week the city pays for, but they have nothing for breakfasts, dinners or the six meals on weekends. Vida's Defeat Senior Hunger campaign distributes free produce and staples every week to 250 of the neediest of the seniors.
YOU CAN HELP
Vida's Defeat Senior Hunger program has no funding. Your contribution of $25; $50; $75 or more will help pay for the insurance and gas for Vida's van collecting produce and staple donations from around the city, for staff time to repack and distribute the donations, overseeing volunteer helpers, keeping and updating lists of recipients, creating recipe flyers and preparation tips, making the program work.
Thank you for caring and for being part of the solution
